The story
The front of this Padre Island gift shop is built to look like a sandcastle, and it is a photo stop on the way to the beach. Roadside America describes the facade as designed to resemble a sand castle, with a mermaid on a giant clam shell. A 2012 visitor tip on that site adds huge shell sculptures, dolphins and a clam-shell waterfall.
A 2017 travel blog put the structure at about three stories high and noted that it is not real sand.
