The story
Most public sculpture says keep your distance. This one sets a place at the table. The park conservancy describes Move One Place On, in Evelyn's Park in Bellaire, Texas, as the Mad Tea Party from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Houstonia reported in 2018 that the sculptor, Bridgette Mongeon, meant each character to interact with an empty place.
The park occupies the five-acre site of the former Teas Nursery, which closed in December 2009; The Jerry and Maury Rubenstein Foundation acquired it, according to Buzz Magazines. Houstonia reported in 2018 that Jerry and Maury Rubenstein commissioned the sculpture in honour of their mother, Evelyn. The park conservancy places it in the south-east corner of the park, within the Evelyn Rubenstein memorial garden.
