FIELD GUIDE
The story
Four oversized heads look out over a Houston freeway interchange. Mount Rush Hour, also known as American Statesmanship Park, shows George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston, each bust 18 feet tall and, according to Houstonia in 2021, about two tons. The sculptor was David Adickes, who died on 13 July 2025 aged 98 according to the radio station The Eagle 106.9/107.5. Houstonia dated the sculpture to 2008 and its freeway-side site to 2012; the Eagle's August 2025 article also gives 2012 for the installation and places it "where I-10 meets I-45 near downtown." Houstonia called it a "tiny, freeway-side First Ward park" and "a Texas-sized version of one of our country's most iconic monuments." A 2020 Click2Houston guide said the heads can be seen from I-45, that its author parked on a quiet street nearby, and that "There is not much to do at the park… but it is a great spot for photos."
