This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
A bright neon-green fiberglass dinosaur with glowing red eyes and a lip-licking tongue, perched atop the Wheatsville Co-op grocery store on The Drag near the University of Texas campus in Austin. Created by artist Dale Whistler as a pizza-delivery-mascot commission for the now-multi-location Mangia pizzeria (originally envisioned as "a cousin of Godzilla"). Stolen by McCallum High School students in 1999; a 2004 repeat prank attempt caused the statue to be dropped and severely damaged, after which the University of Texas paleontology department helped restore it, and the Austin mayor proclaimed October 25 "Mangiasaurus Day."
