"Lupe the Mammoth" (officially Lupe the Columbian Mammoth), an 11-to-12.5-foot-tall, roughly 12,000-pound bent-galvanized-steel-pipe sculpture by artists Freyja Bardell and Brian Howe (Greenmeme), installed by the City of San Jose along the Guadalupe River Trail near Trimble Road. It commemorates the 2005 discovery, nearby along the Guadalupe River, of the most complete Columbian mammoth remains ever found in Santa Clara County -- a 12,500-year-old juvenile mammoth found by a local resident and identified with help from UC Berkeley's Museum of Paleontology.
