FIELD GUIDE
The story
A mirror-polished, six-storey take on the Statue of Liberty now stands on the open plains at the eastern edge of Aurora, a long way from any harbour.
"Liberty" is by Michael Benisty, an artist from Antwerp, Belgium. It first appeared at the 2024 Burning Man festival and was stored in Reno, Nevada, before being installed over a weekend in May 2025, according to the developer of The Aurora Highlands. Developer Carla Ferreira had noticed the piece at Burning Man and then arranged to buy it. It is the largest work in an art walk through Hogan Park at Highlands Creek, a 100-acre park in the 4,000-acre master-planned community, and a Denver Gazette report says it stands nearly twice the height of the 32-foot Blucifer horse at Denver International Airport.
