FIELD GUIDE
The story
In October 2022 the City of Laredo unveiled The Lady of the Water on San Isidro Drive. KGNS reported that the sculpture is an original design by artist Liz Hinojosa and depicts a proud queen with a carafe-shaped body, spreading water from her containers in place of hands. Instead of fingers, the extensions represent positivity and love flowing through the water in all directions. Hinojosa told the station she wanted to embellish the city and educate people to keep the water clean. According to the city, the design ranked highest in a call for artists seeking environment-conscious permanent public art, and the project was made possible by a National Endowment for the Arts grant. KGNS described it as one of three public art pieces the city had unveiled.
