The story
King Neptune is about ten metres high, and he is the last of it.
He was built in the early 1980s as part of Atlantis Marine Park, a Two Rocks attraction that ran dolphin shows on the coast north of Perth. The park closed in the 1990s. The dolphins were released, the buildings went, and the sea king was left standing on the site, looking out over nothing in particular. For years he was the definition of a roadside curiosity: a monumental figure with no attraction attached to him, slowly weathering above the dunes.
What is unusual is that he survived long enough to be protected. The land passed to RAAFA in 2017–18, bought from the Fini Group, as part of a substantial redevelopment of the Two Rocks site. In January 2023 the statue and its surrounds were heritage listed – and the listing had real teeth. The developer publicly acknowledged having to revisit its design approach to accommodate the new heritage requirements, which is to say a giant fibreglass Neptune changed a residential development rather than the other way around.
The City of Wanneroo's 2025 heritage survey records him in fair to good condition and, notably, as retaining high authenticity – meaning what stands today is substantially what was made, not a rebuilt copy.
That is why he is worth the drive. Most Big Things outlive their reason for existing. Very few outlive the entire attraction they were built for, then get formally recognised as heritage precisely for having done so.

The City of Wanneroo 2025 heritage survey confirms King Neptune remains in fair/good condition and retains high authenticity despite major redevelopment around the former marine park.
ACCESS
King Neptune remains in place at Two Rocks, but the surrounding public-open-space redevelopment is still in progress in 2026. Direct vehicle routing should wait until a stable completed visitor arrival is confirmed.
