FIELD GUIDE
The story
From a distance, five tall stainless steel forms on a riverbank slope in central Winnipeg read as an abstracted human hand. That is the Winnipeg Arts Council's description of High Five, a 2014 work by the artist Jennifer Stillwell.
According to the Council's record, the work consists of five "wings" or "fins", each over 25 feet tall, on Waterfront Drive between the river and the baseball diamond. The record says it was originally commissioned as part of the redevelopment of Waterfront Drive, and that the Council managed the project for the City of Winnipeg. It tags the work as both a commission and a collaboration, and lists it as permanent, outdoor, and part of the city's park and trail art.
