FIELD GUIDE

The story

Heavy Metal is a 25-foot cactus made from green metal, designed by Don Kennell and Lisa Adler, according to Visit Greater Palm Springs. Its arms form a rock-and-roll hand sign. The piece was shown in October 2023 at the all-metal Power Trip Festival, held at the Coachella festival site and run by the same organisers as Coachella.
The tourism bureau's April 2026 guide to Coachella-linked art lists it in downtown Indio on Towne Street, in the same grassy lot as The Messengers, the robot sculptures by Kumkum Fernando that debuted at Coachella in 2023.
