The story

Indiana University Bloomington's Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences describes a limestone brain at the main entrance of its Psychology Building, and the department has given it a name. The department says Harlan was unveiled on 11 October 2013 at the main entrance to the Psychology Building. It describes the work as the world's largest anatomically correct brain sculpture; a 2015 IU news release called it the largest anatomically accurate brain sculpture in the U.S.
According to the department, the Indiana limestone carving is 7 feet tall, weighs over 10,000 pounds and is mounted on a stainless-steel plate. The 2015 release gave the weight as 12,000 pounds, and artist Amy Brier's own site lists it as 8 by 6 by 5.5 feet in limestone and stainless steel. Brier designed it and Mike Donham and his team at Accent Limestone carved it. The Harlan Family Foundation underwrote the work, which is the source of the nickname, and it was commissioned for the department's 125th anniversary. The 2015 release described it as dedicated "last year", while the department and Brier both give 2013.
