FIELD GUIDE

The story

A bright blue rooster almost 25 feet tall stands at the north end of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, near the garden's famous cherry on a spoon. Hahn/Cock is by the German sculptor Katharina Fritsch, who first made it in 2013 for the fourth plinth in London's Trafalgar Square. The Walker Art Center dates its own version 2013/2017 and bought it in 2017. MPR News reported that it was installed on 25 May 2017 as one of 16 new works in the garden's multimillion-dollar renovation and expansion.
Its size depends on the source. MPR News gave almost 25 feet in total, with the rooster itself almost 13 feet tall. A Walker magazine caption gives 24 feet, and the Walker's collection record lists 173 1/4 by 173 1/4 by 59 inches. The collection record names the materials as fiberglass, polyester resin, paint and a stainless-steel armature. Walker magazine said the rooster stands on a trapezoidal base designed for the Minneapolis garden, and described the colour as an ultramarine blue.
