FIELD GUIDE

The story

Gubulla Munda is sixty metres long – by a wide margin the largest object in this entire catalogue, and the only one that is a totem.
The sculpture depicts the carpet snake that is the totem and protective spirit of the Birri Gubba people. It was commissioned by the Gudjuda Reference Group and constructed in 2004, and it lies through Plantation Park in Ayr, in the Burdekin.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Gubulla Munda is the 60-metre carpet-snake sculpture in Plantation Park. Burdekin Shire Council confirms the current attraction and cultural significance, but its attraction-page map pin sits about 353 m from the object-specific OpenStreetMap artwork feature. The OSM-backed artwork point at approximately -19.584761, 147.398575 independently aligns within about 7 m of TLCMap’s estimated sculpture location, so production now uses the object-specific mapped point rather than the generic Council attraction-page pin.
ACCESS
Use the separately map-checked Plantation Park / Burdekin visitor precinct arrival and approach on foot through the public park. The canonical Gubulla Munda point is now the independently corroborated artwork location, approximately 82 m from the visitor destination; the vehicle point remains intentionally separate from the 60-metre sculpture.
