FIELD GUIDE
The story
Most roadside attractions sit beside a highway; this one sits over it. The Archway at Kearney, Nebraska, is a museum built across Interstate 80 at Exit 275, and visitors walk through its exhibits above the traffic.
The Archway says it was conceived by Frank Morrison, Nebraska's 31st governor, who served from 1961 to 1967,. Its executive director told KSNB in 2025 that Kearney was chosen because it is the one place where the Oregon, California and Mormon trails all crossed. KSNB gives the cost as $60 million and the span as 308 to 310 feet.
