This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
A giant sculpture of a smoking pipe stands on First Street in St. Claude, Manitoba. The Manitoba Historical Society gives its size as about 19 feet long and 5 feet high, weighing just over 400 pounds. It commemorates settlers who arrived in 1892 from Saint-Claude in the Jura region of France, where pipe manufacturing was the main industry, and was funded by the St. Claude Chamber of Commerce. The Historical Society says it is believed to be the second-largest smoking pipe in the world, and Travel Manitoba likewise calls it the second largest; the 'world's largest' wording used in catalogues is not supported by these sources.
