FIELD GUIDE

The story

A park bench seven and a third metres high, built so that you walk underneath it rather than sit on it.
That inversion is the entire work. A bench is the most human-scaled object in any public space – its dimensions are determined precisely by the length of a thigh and the height of a knee – so enlarging one until an adult can stand beneath the seat does something no giant animal can. It makes the viewer the wrong size rather than the object.
