This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
A giant maneki-neko ("beckoning cat" or "lucky cat") statue with an upraised waving paw, standing outside Ramen Tatsu-Ya at the corner of California St and Ridgewood in Houston's Montrose neighborhood, greeting walk-in diners since the restaurant opened in February 2017. Real maneki-neko figurines are traditionally small tabletop/shelf ornaments only a few inches to roughly a foot tall, so a human-scale-or-larger outdoor statue is dramatically oversized regardless of an exact footage figure; it is independently described as "giant" and "massive" by both press coverage and Houston's official tourism organization, and is a well-known photo-op landmark.
