FIELD GUIDE
The story
You can hear kiwi calling from the roadside at Port Charles. Because they are nocturnal, almost nobody ever sees one – which is precisely why the Moehau Environment Group put a two-and-a-half-metre steel one beside the road.
The group works to protect kiwi and other endangered species in the northern Coromandel, and the sculpture was commissioned to raise the visibility of a bird that is genuinely present and effectively invisible. As the group's chair put it, the calling is there for anyone standing outside at night; the animal is not.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Moehau Environment Group places the Giant Kiwi beside Port Charles Road after the second bridge and before the Carey Road turn-off. A contemporaneous unveiling notice independently places the ceremony at the Carey Road turn-off, and council roading material identifies a Port Charles Road bridge about 400 m south of Carey Road. PBT therefore has a tightly constrained road corridor, but no defensible sculpture-centroid coordinate; the stored numeric point remains locality-level only.
ACCESS
Roadside sculpture on remote Port Charles Road. PBT does not provide direct vehicle navigation to the locality/object reference. The sculpture is constrained to the short approach before the Carey Road turn-off, but an exact object pin and a lawful formed stopping point still require verification.
