FIELD GUIDE
The story
A golden kiwi has stood on a hotel roof at Auckland Airport since 1992, and before that it spent time in a museum.
The fibreglass bird began as an advertising landmark at the Kiwi Bacon factory in Kingsland, mounted above the works. It was later displayed temporarily at Auckland Museum, and in 1992 it was relocated to the roof of what is now the Auckland Airport Kiwi Hotel at 150 McKenzie Road in Māngere, where it has remained ever since. The hotel takes its name from the bird.

ACCESS
The giant kiwi remains associated with Auckland Airport Kiwi Hotel at 150 McKenzie Road. Current tourism information confirms complimentary onsite parking for hotel users, but that does not establish casual public sightseeing parking. The former arrival row merely duplicated the hotel/object site coordinate and was not a verified public arrival, so it has been removed. Direct navigation remains withheld pending a lawful public viewing/arrival option.
