FIELD GUIDE

The story

Granite City's It's Electric Neon Sign Park, at 19th Street and Delmar Avenue, is a small Route 66 tribute with a large kitchen vessel at its heart. KMOV's First Alert 4 reported in June 2026 that the park holds a 14-foot graniteware pot, “a nod to the city’s history as a center of American graniteware production”, alongside a 16-foot Make It toy monument and three restored neon signs. KMOV calls the pot a coffee pot; the Great Rivers & Routes tourism bureau calls it a tea pot and a tea kettle. Route 66 News reported in August 2024 that local officials had switched on the park's lights, and in July 2024 described it as a few blocks west of the Madison Avenue alignment of Route 66. The bureau names the signs as Hudson Jewelers, Reese Drug Store and Washington Theatre, with plaques giving a short history of each business, and also lists a love-lock replica of the Chain of Rocks Bridge and murals. The bureau suggests pairing it with a drive along the Last 100 Miles of Route 66 in Illinois.
