FIELD GUIDE

The story

The emu at Nannup is made from wrecked cars, and that is the message.
The three-metre sculpture, weighing around 650 kilograms, was assembled from vehicle parts recovered from crashes as part of the Shire of Nannup's road-safety messaging. Building a large animal out of the wreckage of collisions is about as direct a piece of communication as public art gets, and it works on a road where the actual hazard is exactly this: a large bird stepping out of the bush in front of a car.
