This Big Thing is recorded as still being here.
A red fiberglass cherry, 8 feet in diameter with a 5-foot stem, was installed beside the Cherry Building in Cedar Rapids' NewBo District at the end of July 2019, according to The Gazette. Local artist Todd Sabin built it over about a year for the building's owners, with private funding, to mark the converted warehouse's 100-year legacy. Mounted on a 4-foot base, the top is about 20 feet off the ground by the artist's calculation, and he estimates it weighs roughly 500 to 600 pounds. It was placed by the building's 11th Avenue entrance, across the street from NewBo City Market.
