FIELD GUIDE
The story
A towering bicycle on William Street, celebrating what Burnie City Council's guide calls Devonport's cycling spirit.
The city has earned the claim. Devonport hosts a significant road cycling scene, the Tasmanian Christmas carnivals bring track racing to the north-west coast each summer, and the city is the arrival point for the Spirit of Tasmania – which means a very large proportion of the cyclists who tour the island start here, wheeling their bikes off the ferry.
