The story

A big root beer mug marks the Frostop Drive-In on US Highway 20 in Ashton. According to the Ashton Chamber of Commerce, the drive-in was founded in 1965 and changed hands several times: in the 1970s it was briefly called Mug Jugs before the Frostop name returned in 1975, and the current owners bought it in 2007. In 2021 East Idaho News described the "massive rotating" mug as an iconic landmark for travellers on the highway, and reported that the restaurant had closed on 31 January that year after ice damaged its roof. It was due to reopen in late March after a nearly two-month renovation with a 1965 retro theme, and planned a one-day sale of ice-cream cones at 19 cents and root beers at 65 cents. A September 2025 post for the regional tourism body Yellowstone Teton Territory describes ordering from the car, eating at outdoor tables or going inside, and mentions smaller statues of a pig, a turtle and an elephant alongside the mug. In 2021 East Idaho News described the drive-in as known for burgers, fries, shakes, sundaes and root beer floats.
