FIELD GUIDE
The story
Tulare has a Convair airliner parked on L Street, and you can eat Mexican food in it. The Flying Taco occupies a Convair 240 that KSEE24 and CBS47 reported in September 2025 as 74 feet long and nine feet wide.
The plane did not start life as a taco restaurant. According to that report, it was brought to the lot and opened as a hot-dog stand called Aero Dogs by its founders. ABC30 dated the opening of Aero Dogs to 2003. By late 2019 the Hernandez family had the chance to lease the restaurant, and they rebranded it as The Flying Taco and began serving Mexican food. The pandemic initially limited them to take-out only, but KSEE24 says customers were later able to come back inside.
