FIELD GUIDE
The story
A full-size Stonehenge, built from 137 locally quarried granite stones, standing in a paddock near Esperance – and it actually works.
That last part is what separates it from every other replica. The Esperance Stonehenge was built to align with the solstices at its own latitude, not Wiltshire's. On the morning of the summer solstice, on 21 or 22 December, the sun's rays align with the heel stones and shine through to the altar stone; at sunset on the winter solstice, 21 June, the same alignment repeats in reverse.
