FIELD GUIDE

The story

Eke Tahi is twelve metres long, 3.1 metres wide, weighs 800 kilograms, and its makers say it is the largest skateboard in the world.
The name means Ride as One. It was designed and built by Unique Creative, a Silverdale company, and commissioned by the New Zealand Olympic Committee – not as a monument at all, but as a touring object. Skateboarding was being added to the Olympic programme for Tokyo 2020, and the board was made to travel the country raising awareness of that. For a while it was a roadshow prop.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Eke Tahi is a 12-metre, roughly 800 kg giant skateboard originally created for the New Zealand Olympic Committee. After its national roadshow it was refurbished and permanently installed at the entrance to Mangawhai Activity Zone in October 2024; the fabricator and MAZ both continue to describe it as a permanent landmark.
ACCESS
Public recreation-park landmark at Mangawhai Activity Zone, 191 Molesworth Drive. Current business data confirms a wheelchair-accessible car park and entrance; route visitors to MAZ rather than to the sculpture point itself.
