FIELD GUIDE
The story
In 2022 Texas Highways described a dragon that “rears menacingly” and a King Kong scaling a boom crane among the two dozen or so sculptures of Eclectic Menagerie Park, a roadside collection on the edge of Texas Pipe and Supply’s pipe yard in Houston.
A November 2025 H-Town Happens guide to the park likewise lists a gorilla draped over a crane boom among its twenty-plus metal creatures. The park began in 1987 when a concrete hippo appeared on the site, and most of the later pieces were made by welder Ron Lee, a longtime company employee who died in 2017, with the remainder by light metals artist Mark Rankin. Texas Highways reported that the works are not credited piece by piece. A June 2026 Secret Houston guide also describes a crane-suspended King Kong.

WHAT TO EXPECT
A roadside view of metal sculptures from the 288 feeder road. The park is on private industrial property: Secret Houston (June 2026) says public access on foot is not permitted and the collection is meant for drive-by viewing. A November 2025 guide says to pull onto the wide shoulder and stay out of the private yard; Texas Highways (2022) notes soggy ground and no footpaths.
ACCESS
Southwest corner of West Bellfort Avenue and southbound State Highway 288, Houston, on Texas Pipe and Supply’s private industrial property. Public access on foot is not permitted (Secret Houston, June 2026); view from the feeder road shoulder and do not enter the yard.
