FIELD GUIDE
The story
You do not need a passport to meet an Easter Island head in suburban Wisconsin: a 14-foot-tall, 9-foot-wide replica stands in a private yard on Cleveland Avenue in New Berlin.
It was built in the summer of 1980 by the homeowner with the help of friends. In a 2017 WUWM interview he said he had always been intrigued by the mystery of the moai: “Everything I had heard or read about proved that they were an enigma.” In 2024 he told TMJ4 that building it was “sort of just a whim”.
