FIELD GUIDE
The story
In late 2017 Dream Song Tower, a tepee-shaped metal sculpture by artist Cruz Ortiz, was installed on a city-owned corner at Interstate 35 and Zarzamora Street on San Antonio's South Side. The San Antonio Report, KSAT and the San Antonio Current gave its height as 60 feet; Texas Public Radio described a 70-foot tower.
Ortiz's cut-out lettering spells out Siempre Dreaming of You, a variation on a Selena lyric. The design also draws on South Side folklore, including a light-blue donkey figure for the Donkey Lady. Glasstire and KSAT reported birds and stars that move with the wind. Of the work Ortiz told KSAT: "This is a love letter to and from the Southside."
