FIELD GUIDE
The story
Liberal, Kansas added a giant version of Dorothy's ruby slippers in 2025. The City of Liberal announced the project in December 2024, saying the slide would stand on the grounds of the Tourist Information Center, and held a ribbon-cutting at 1 Yellow Brick Road on 11 July 2025.
KSN reported that the slide is 10 feet tall and stretches about 18 feet long, and sits just across the street from Dorothy's House and the Land of Oz exhibit. The city says it is designed for children and adults. It was custom-made in Baltimore and hauled to Liberal, according to KSN, and was paid for with a Kansas Tourism Attraction Development Grant of more than $32,000, according to the city, together with the city's transient guest tax.
