The story

Oracle Park’s Coca-Cola bottle began as an advertising deal. In October 1998 CBS News reported that the San Francisco Planning Commission had approved a huge play structure shaped like a Coke bottle for the Giants’ new ballpark, then called Pacific Bell Park. The 1998 plans described an 80-foot-long, 40-foot-high structure on a platform behind the left-field bleachers, holding a slide and set in a 34,000-square-foot children’s play area with three miniature practice fields and a huge baseball glove. The Giants told the commission, before the vote, that the structure was part of an advertising deal that would help pay for the privately financed stadium.
KTVU reported in February 2025 that the bottle has been a staple since the ballpark opened in 2000, and described the slide as 80 feet. NBC Bay Area said that over 25 years the lights and paint had shown clear signs of wear and tear. A Giants spokesperson said the bottle would get a fresh coat of paint and other updates, and at the team’s March 2025 preview event chief executive Larry Baer said: “Now we’re doing a whole LED around it.”
