The story
Brer Rabbit is the trickster of Joel Chandler Harris's Uncle Remus tales, and a statue of the rabbit stood outside the Uncle Remus Museum in Eatonton, Georgia.
The statue made news in August 2011, when it was stolen from outside the museum and later recovered. SaportaReport, on 27 August 2011, quoted the sheriff as saying the statue had been hidden a few miles west of Eatonton on Georgia 16. It reported that local artisans repaired the statue free of charge and that it was back on its pedestal in front of the museum.
