FIELD GUIDE
The story
Bruce is the biggest windmill in Australia, and he stands among about twenty others in a paddock beside Highway 1.
The Penong Windmill Museum is an open-air collection of donated and restored windmills gathered from as far away as Marla, the Riverland and Alice Springs – a tribute, as South Australia Tourism puts it, to the whirling workhorses of Australian farming that have now been largely replaced by solar panels.
