The story
Ten metres of rainbow trout, made in 1973, restored in 2024, and listed as a local heritage item.
That heritage listing is the detail that matters. Very few Big Things anywhere carry formal heritage status, and it converts an oversized fibreglass fish from a tourism asset into something a council has an obligation toward. The Big Penguin in Tasmania and the Big Scotsman's contested Adelaide site are the only comparable cases in this catalogue.
The 2024 restoration was carried out by the Sydney-based mural painter Ryan Loughnane, and NSW Government confirms the trout on Baker Street with free entry and full visitor facilities.
Adaminaby's claim is real and comes with a hard history. The waters running off the Snowy Mountains are famous for their quality and for trout fishing, and nearby Lake Eucumbene is the centre of it. But Eucumbene is a Snowy Scheme reservoir, and old Adaminaby is underneath it – the town was moved in the 1950s when the dam filled, buildings relocated and the original site drowned. In drought years the foundations reappear.
So a monument to the fishery at Adaminaby is standing above the town the fishery's reservoir displaced. That is not a comfortable thing, and it is the kind of layered history a giant fish would not obviously be expected to carry.
The unanswered questions are a date.

ACCESS
Navigate to the public street-side parking beside Adaminaby Park, about 25 m east of the Big Trout on Baker Street, then walk to the Trout. OpenStreetMap independently maps this street-side parking area at -35.99736, 148.77488, and NSW Government's Big Trout page lists car parking and coach parking at the attraction. The navigation point is the mapped parking feature, not an individual bay centroid.
OpenStreetMap node 12661684281 (amenity=parking, parking=street_side, 'Adaminaby Park') at -35.99736, 148.77488, about 25 m east of the Big Trout; used as the map-checked arrival, replacing the government attraction map target.
