FIELD GUIDE
The story
One of two giant drink containers in the same town, at opposite ends of the respectability scale.
The Big Rum Bottle stands outside the Bundaberg Rum Distillery visitor precinct; the Bundaberg Barrel, a barrel-shaped visitor centre for Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, is on Bargara Road. Rum and ginger beer, both named for the town, both with giant containers outside their respective visitor operations.
That pairing is unique in this catalogue. No other town has two beverage monuments for two separate internationally recognised brands that share its name.
Both exist because of sugar. Bundaberg's cane country produced molasses, molasses produces rum, and the distillery has operated since 1888 – through a fire that destroyed it in 1936 and a rebuild, and through decades in which Bundaberg Rum became a national brand with a polar bear on the label and a following that is close to tribal in Queensland.
A bottle is a straightforward thing to enlarge, and the Bundaberg bottle is instantly identifiable because the label design has barely changed in generations. Brand recognition does the work that shape alone could not.
Drink-container Big Things are a substantial category here – the Koumala beer can on its painted tank, the Cobar beer can, the Rutherglen wine bottle converted from a water tower, the Kotara tower reskinned in 2026. Most are pubs or repurposed structures. This one is the actual manufacturer, at the actual distillery, which makes it the most directly grounded of them.
The bottle's dimensions and date have not been recorded.

ACCESS
The Big Rum Bottle stands on the Bundaberg Rum visitor grounds. For drivers, use the Bundaberg Rum Visitor Experience via Hills Street; the operator confirms free car parking, coach/large-vehicle parking and accessible parking, and independently mapped OpenStreetMap geometry places the Bondstore visitor building at approximately -24.85454, 152.36665. Production uses that as the destination-level visitor arrival rather than treating the bottle coordinate as a parking point; follow onsite signs into the car park.
Maps the public Bondstore / visitor building at approximately -24.85454, 152.36665; used as a destination-level arrival distinct from the Big Rum Bottle.
