The story
Outside a garage-door business on an industrial street at Kunda Park, a giant hand holds up a garage-door remote, thumb poised over the button.
It belongs to the oldest and most practical tradition in Australian roadside sculpture: the Big Thing as advertisement. Long before they were collected and mapped, most of these objects existed for one reason – to tell drivers what was sold inside, at a size and speed that a painted sign could not manage. A fruit stall got a giant piece of fruit. A fishing shop got a giant fish. East Coast Garage Doors & Gates got a giant hand working a remote.

WHAT TO EXPECT
The Big Remote & Hand was last documented at East Coast Garage Doors’ former site at 6 Enterprise Street, Kunda Park, including April 2023 photography. East Coast Garage Doors now operates from 12–14 Access Crescent, Coolum Beach, while the Kunda Park property has changed hands and is currently marketed for lease under different occupancy. No current evidence confirms whether the sculpture was removed, left behind or moved with the business, so its present location remains uncertain.

Current location uncertain. The 6 Enterprise Street coordinate is retained only as the last documented sculpture site; the former host business has moved and the property has changed occupancy. Do not travel to either Kunda Park or the Coolum Beach showroom specifically to see the sculpture until its present display is independently confirmed.
