The story

At the Glenwood Avenue end of Wildwood's dog beach, a fire hydrant stands 25 feet tall. Wildwoods tourism describes the red Fire Hydrant Sculpture as sitting at the beach dog park, right at the entrance to the Dog Beach. Parkworld Online reported in 2016 that it was painted bright red and made from recycled parts of an old slide tower. According to that article, the Morey Organization donated it to the city to mark the location of the new beach, and it also pays tribute to the Wildwood Fire Department and two volunteer fire units. The article gave the dog beach as one city block wide and 1,500 feet long; Wildwoods tourism in 2025 describes the area as a block and a half long and 190 yards wide. The same 2025 page says the dog park is completely fenced and divided into sections for large and small dogs, and that dogs must be licensed and leashed outside the park. It gives the designated dog beach season as May through October and the opening hours as 6 a.m. until dusk. The same page says a USA Today 10Best readers' poll of dog-friendly beaches, run with BringFido.com, ranked Wildwoods Dog Beach second in the nation. In 2018 Parkworld Online reported that Morey's was using eleven pieces of discarded track to build a dog sculpture about 35 feet high near the hydrant.
