FIELD GUIDE
The story
The local community raised four thousand dollars, and Broken River got a platypus.
The sculpture was built in March 2021 at Eungella National Park in Central Queensland – described by Atlas Obscura as the best place in the world to spot a wild platypus, which is a claim that stands up. The viewing platforms on the Broken River are genuinely reliable at dawn and dusk in a way almost nowhere else is, and people travel internationally for it.
