FIELD GUIDE

The story

The Big Picture Frame at Stanley is an oversized empty frame, and what it frames is The Nut.
The Nut is a flat-topped volcanic plug rising about 140 metres straight out of the sea beside the town – the eroded remains of a volcanic vent, sheer on most sides, and one of the most striking single landforms in Tasmania. Stanley sits at its foot. There is no possibility of visiting and not looking at it.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Burnie City Council currently promotes the Big Picture Frame as a Stanley photo stop, and the official Stanley and Tarkine visitor map also identifies Stanley Photo Frame as an attraction.
ACCESS
Navigate to H.A. Lane Memorial Lookout at 148 Dovecote Road. Current regional tourism identifies the Giant Picture Frame at the lookout, and current visitor information identifies the lookout as a council public-car-park destination. Use the formed lookout parking and viewing area; the stored site pin should not be interpreted as a surveyed parking bay.
