The story
WKMG (ClickOrlando) reported on 27 December 2025 that "The nearest Muffler Man statue to Central Florida is at Big Mechanic in Dade City." The report's author wrote that, driving through Dade City in 2023, he pulled a U-turn to photograph "this wrench-wielding giant." Joel Baker, who opened the American Giants Museum on Route 66, told the station: "I've seen over 200 giants now and Dade City was also my first."
The same report gave the wider history. It said Bobbie Lee "Bob" Prewitt is believed to have made the first Muffler Man, a 21-foot Paul Bunyan built in 1962 for the Paul Bunyan Cafe in Flagstaff, Arizona, and that he sold his business to International Fiberglass in 1963. Baker told the station that a chain of muffler shops in Texas ordered the giants in the 1960s and their arms all held large mufflers.
