FIELD GUIDE
The story
A giant mandarin at a caravan park named after it, in a town that grows more citrus than almost anywhere in the state.
Mundubbera sits on the Burnett River in the North Burnett and is one of Australia's major citrus districts – mandarins above all, with the harvest running through winter and the packing sheds employing much of the town. The soils, the river water and the reliably dry winters produce fruit that ships nationally.
A mandarin rather than an orange is the distinguishing choice, and a fair one. Mundubbera's reputation rests on the easy-peel varieties, and the flattened shape with its dimpled skin is visibly different from a sphere – which matters, because forty kilometres up the road at Gayndah there is a Big Orange with a visitor centre inside it, and the two towns have competed over citrus for a very long time.
So the North Burnett has two citrus monuments within an hour of each other, each committed to a different fruit. That is not coincidence; it is the same kind of long, patient municipal rivalry that produced the Tully and Babinda rainfall argument.
The object is a long-running landmark tied to the Big Mandarin Caravan Park at 1 Anne Street, which puts it on private commercial ground and is why the record marks access as restricted.
The fruit's maker, dimensions, materials and installation date are not recorded, and no approved source text is attached.

The long-running citrus landmark remains associated with the operating Big Mandarin Caravan Park. OpenStreetMap maps the attraction itself at -25.58346, 151.30056; this replaces the former coordinate that was merely a 2017 photograph camera position.
ACCESS
The Big Mandarin is independently mapped inside the operating Big Mandarin Caravan Park at 1 Anne Street. The sculpture can be viewed from outside the property over the fence, but PBT has not yet verified a lawful public parking/viewing point for casual sightseers. Do not rely on caravan-park guest access unless staying there or otherwise permitted.
OpenStreetMap maps the attraction itself at -25.58346, 151.30056. Used as object-level map geometry, distinct from the 2017 photograph camera position and from any visitor parking claim.
