FIELD GUIDE

The story

A fibreglass kangaroo at a state school, and the catalogue is careful about how it classifies it.
The North Burnett art trail identifies a fibreglass kangaroo at Mulgildie State School on Brigalow Street, and object-specific Queensland Big Things photography calls it the Big Joey. Because the dimensions have not been established, the record classifies it as extended rather than core – a discipline worth noting, since a kangaroo at a country school could as easily be a life-sized figure as an oversized one, and nothing available settles which.
