FIELD GUIDE
The story
The work at Casey Fields is called Field Landings, and it is one of the wittier pieces of oversized public art in Victoria.
Rather than presenting an athletics implement as an object on a plinth, it shows oversized javelins protruding from the ground at an angle, as though they had just been thrown – by an athlete of a size the sculpture leaves you to imagine. An accompanying oversized shot-put element completes the set. Nothing is on display; everything has just landed. The giant is implied and absent, which is a considerably better idea than building the giant.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Current City of Casey material confirms the athletics centre remains an active public facility in 2026. Current public-art coverage identifies Field Landings as oversized javelins protruding from the ground as if thrown by a giant athlete, with specialist Big Things coverage also noting the accompanying oversized shot-put element.
ACCESS
Navigate to the published Casey Fields Regional Athletics Centre entrance off Berwick-Cranbourne Road and use the marked venue parking. The Big Javelins and Shot Put are within the wider Casey Fields precinct; approach the artwork on foot and observe event or arena-access restrictions.
