FIELD GUIDE

The story

Two oversized jam jars outside a jam factory on the Granite Belt, which is about as direct as food advertising gets.
Jamworks at Glen Aplin makes preserves from the fruit grown around it, and the Granite Belt around Stanthorpe is the reason the business exists. This is Queensland's only significant cool-climate growing district – high enough and cold enough for apples, pears, stone fruit and berries that will not grow anywhere else in the state – and it has built a substantial food and wine visitor economy on that unlikeness.
