FIELD GUIDE
The story
Three guitar players about forty-five feet tall, and they are made out of trees that are still standing where they grew.
The Guitar Men at Harvey Dickson's Country Music Centre outside Boyup Brook are formed from standing timber – which means the sculptor worked with what was already in the ground rather than carving a felled log or fabricating a frame. That is a fundamentally different discipline: the height, the lean and the branching are all given, and the figure has to be found within them.
