FIELD GUIDE
The story
Built by the men's shed, in a railway precinct, for a goldfield that was briefly the richest in New South Wales.
NSW Government records the pick and pan as constructed under the supervision of the Grenfell Men's Shed, in recognition of the town's contribution to the Australian gold era of the mid to late 1860s. Weddin tourism fills in the detail: gold was found in 1866, and the Grenfell goldfields were the richest in the state around 1867 to 1869.
