FIELD GUIDE

The story

The goanna completes the collection, which is how Tourism Central Australia describes it.
Aileron on the Stuart Highway already had the seventeen-metre Anmatjere Man on the hill above the roadhouse and the Anmatjere Woman and Child group at ground level from 2008. A February 2026 Big Things source records the goanna as a later addition to that group, and current Tourism Central Australia material describes Aileron as notable for its collection of giant sculptures with the goanna lizard completing it.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Current Tourism Central Australia material describes Aileron as notable for its collection of giant sculptures and says the goanna lizard completes the collection. A February 2026 Big Things source independently records the goanna as a later addition to the Anmatjere Woman and Child group.
ACCESS
The Big Goanna forms part of the Woman and Child sculpture group north of Aileron Roadhouse. The stored object point is a site anchor for that sculpture group rather than a separately surveyed goanna centroid. Navigate to Aileron Roadhouse and approach on foot.
