'The Big Fish' is a nine-story-tall, 16-foot-wide, 50-ton copper-coated steel fish sculpture -- a hybrid design between a salmon and a trout -- standing outside the Atlanta Fish Market at 265 Pharr Road in Buckhead. Designed in 1995 by Georgia artist Martin Dawe in collaboration with restaurateur Pano Karatassos (founder of Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, which owns the market), the sculpture is anchored 90 feet underground and engineered to withstand winds up to 200 mph. It cost $500,000 to build in 1995 (an estimated $2 million to replace today) and was, at the time, one of the tallest structures on the Buckhead skyline.
