FIELD GUIDE
The story
Mingenew calls itself The Grain Centre, and the claim has some very large numbers behind it: the CBH facility here is recognised as the biggest inland grower-fed grain receival site in the Southern Hemisphere, holding 403,000 tonnes.
The wheat sculpture in Cecil Newton Park is the town saying so in bronze rather than in tonnages. Robert Hitchcock created it in 2001 as a Centenary of Federation project, and it depicts the importance of wheat farming to the district.
